The former Illinois football coach is no longer part of Larry Fedora's staff after a series of negative reactions to his hiring as a volunteer assistant. The university announced the move Thursday evening in a statement to media (per WRAL-TV of Raleigh, N.C.) Beckman said he did not want to be a "distraction" to the program or UNC.

In fact, Fedora said in the statement (via RaleighCo.com) that Beckman had become a distraction.
