GAINESVILLE, Va. – Tiger Woods said he was close.
Close to having everything in his new swing come together. Close to putting up the red numbers he knows reside inside. Close to being once again a force late on Sunday in a PGA Tour event.
Well, Woods was right. He is close – to the lead after his second round of the Quicken Loans National at sun-drenched Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. With a 5-under-par 66 Friday, Woods moved to 8 under for the tournament and one shot behind pace-setters Retief Goosen and Ollie Schniederjans, who turned pro after finishing in a tie for 12th in the British Open.
