Newark Indians pitcher Al Schacht, whose on-field hijinks earned him the title "Clown Prince of Baseball," surprised the home crowd by riding a horse from the bullpen to the pitcher's mound before a 1914 game.

Schacht met the horse's owner earlier in the day, gave him three bucks and a game ticket as equine rental, then tied the horse unseen beneath the bleachers.
