Actors Rachel Sennott and Bowen Yang announced the nominees for the 97th Academy Awards. Jacques Audiard’s “Emilia Pérez,” the Netflix narco-musical about transgender identity, dominated the list with 13 nominations. “The Brutalist,” a three-plus hour postwar epic, and “Wicked,” a blockbuster adaptation of the Broadway musical, followed behind with 10 nominations each.
While the announcement typically kicks off a barrage of award-show pageantry culminating in the Oscars themselves, this year’s programming will be muted because of the devastating fires across Southern California.
