That time a team turned a triple play without touching the ball

Keith Bodie has seen hundreds of thousands of plays in his 42 years in a baseball uniform. He still remembers the exact details of one that occurred 30 years ago.

“It was in extended spring training in 1986 in Sarasota, Florida,” Bodie recalled. “I was with the Astros. We were playing the White Sox’ extended spring team and they had a kid named Sergio Beltre on second and a kid named Norberto Martin on first and nobody out.”

That’s when the Astros' minor leaguers turned a triple play without any of them touching the ball. Bodie explained:

“It was a hit and run, and the batter popped the ball up into the infield and both runners had their heads down.
