Augie Garrido has been removed from his position as Texas baseball coach and reassigned to the role of special assistant to athletic director Mike Perrin, the school announced Monday.
Garrido, 77, wanted to coach through 2017, the final year of his contract with Texas, but was unable to convince athletic department brass to let him stay on, according to an Austin American-Statesman report.
After the Longhorns’ season-ending loss to TCU in the Big 12 tournament on Saturday, Garrido said, “If I’m not back, it’s because I couldn’t control the decision that was made.
