Texas A&M fires coach Sumlin after six seasons

COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Kevin Sumlin era has come to an end at Texas A&M.

The school fired Sumlin on Sunday after six seasons and a 51-26 overall record. The move came less than 24 hours after the Aggies ended their regular season with a 42-21 loss to LSU to drop to 7-5 overall.

"Kevin's tenure included some remarkable achievements and he leaves our program as one of the winningest football coaches in our storied history," Texas A&M athletic director Scott Woodward said in a statement. "Kevin made us a better all-around football program and led our program with dignity and character.
