Tennessee football player suspended after being charged with assault, false imprisonment

Tennessee suspended junior defensive tackle Alexis Johnson following his arrest Wednesday on charges he assaulted a female acquaintance.

The university announced the ban shortly after Johnson was taken into custody by the Knox County Sheriff's Department.

Tennessee spokesman Ryan Robinson says that Alexis Johnson has been suspended from all football activities.

Johnson was charged with aggravated assault and false imprisonment, according to arrest warrants obtained by the Knoxville News Sentinel.
