Tyler Clary had one last chance at the making the Olympic team on Friday, needing at top-two finish in the 200-meter backstroke to have a shot to defend his Olympic gold medal in Rio.
Clary's dreams were dashed as he third behind Cal teammates Ryan Murphy and Jacob Pebley at the U.S. Olympic trials in Omaha, Neb.
His competition complete, Clary announced he will retire.

"I don't see a reason to continue," Clary told media members.
