A person suspected of shooting and killing former Saints defensive end Will Smith on Saturday has been charged with second-degree murder.
According to the New Orleans Advocate, Cardell Hayes, 28, was booked by New Orleans police early Sunday morning. He had pleaded guilty in 2014 as a first-time offender to illegal carrying of a weapon as well as possession of drug paraphernalia and was sentenced to six months probation.

It appears that this may be the same Cardell Hayes who once received a settlement from New Orleans police, according to NOLA.
