It’s official. Following its 4-1 home defeat to Arsenal in Saturday’s early game, Sunderland has now endured the worst-ever start to a Premier League season.
After falling behind to an Alexis Sanchez strike, the Black Cats did draw level against the Gunners courtesy of a second-half Jermain Defoe penalty.
But an Olivier Giroud brace and additional Sanchez strike condemned David Moyes’ side to its eighth league defeat of the campaign.
It leaves Sunderland rooted to the foot of the table with just two points and only Manchester City in the 1995-96 season has made such a poor start.
