SUNDAY’S RESULTS

Kyah Simon, who came on in the second half, scored in the 80th minute Saturday to lift AUSTRALIA to a 1-0 upset of the star forward Marta and BRAZIL in Moncton, New Brunswick. Australia’s round-of-16 win was its first ever — men or women — in a knockout-round game at a World Cup. Brazil’s exit, meanwhile, was its earliest ever, and Simon’s goal was the first allowed by Brazil in the tournament.

“I was just thinking about the slippery conditions,” Simon said. “It’s wet and I needed to follow up, and thankfully I was in the right place at the right time.
