(Reuters) - Strong pitching propelled the Kansas City Royals to a 5-0 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays in Game One of the American League Championship Series on Friday.

Catcher Salvador Perez slugged a solo home run and four Royals' pitchers kept the Toronto bats in check at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri to draw first blood in the best-of-seven series.

Kansas City starter Edinson Volquez pitched six strong innings, striking out five and giving up two hits and four walks before handing over to the team's bullpen to close it out.
