ERIN, Wis. -- A total of 5 under par often wins the U.S. Open, and that is the number Steve Stricker vaguely had in mind at the start of the week at Erin Hills.
And that is what he shot.
Stricker, the Wisconsin native who made it through sectional qualifying to get here, didn't come anywhere close to winning Sunday, but he was glad to be part of the first U.S. Open to be played in his state.
"I don't know if I have 14 under in my bag to play,'' said Stricker, 50, who finished with a 69 and in a tie for 16th.
