Steven Gerrard says he was shocked by the difficulty of playing in MLS in his first season.
The North American soccer league's season begins Sunday. Garrard and the Los Angeles Galaxy play their first match at home against DC United.

Garrard, former captain of English Premier League side Liverpool, joined the Galaxy midway through last season. He says he was impressed by the standard of play, while finding the conditions in some parts of the United States a particularly testing aspect.
"There were some shocks and surprises when you go away on the road," Garrard, 35, told Sky Sports.
