Red Sox All-Star knuckleballer Steven Wright has been scratched from this next start because of shoulder irritation following an ill-advised move as a pinch runner Sunday in Los Angeles, the team announced.
Eduardo Rodriguez will replace Wright as Thursday's scheduled starter against the Yankees.
Wright was hurt diving back into second base while pinch-running for David Ortiz in the sixth inning of Boston's 8-5 loss to the Dodgers.
An MRI showed no structural damage to Wright's shoulder, Red Sox manager John Farrell said Wednesday afternoon. Wright is not expected to miss significant time, but there's no timetable for his return to the rotation.
