One proposed rule change could shake up the NFL offseason as we know it.
The Pittsburgh Steelers' proposed free agency negotiation rule change would allow teams to have direct contact with players during the legal tampering period via video or phone call, as well as schedule visits with said players that will take place once the new league year officially starts.
Currently, NFL teams are only permitted to speak to the agents of players—which makes it impossible to communicate with players lacking representation. Additionally, teams are forbidden from scheduling meetings until the new league year begins—a rule that is likely broken anyway, as several teams immediately announce visits when the year commences.
