Weary and concerned about doing justice to her family, Stacey Allaster unexpectedly resigned from her globe-trotting post as chief executive of the WTA Tour on Oct. 2.
Not quite six months later, Allaster has decided to return to tennis management and — in another surprise — is joining the United States Tennis Association as its chief executive for professional tennis.
Allaster, a 52-year-old Canadian who became a United States citizen last year, will report to Gordon Smith, the U.S.T.A.’s chief operating officer and executive director.
“I worked 28 years straight, hard between the Ontario Tennis Association, Tennis Canada and the WTA, and that was a mistake,” Allaster said by telephone Friday from a wellness retreat in California.
