Sports world remembers 30th anniversary of 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'

June 11, 2016 marks the 30th anniversary release of the hit comedy film "Ferris Bueller's Day Off," which has plenty of relevance in the sports world to this day.

The movie's impact on the sports landscape was made evident on Friday, when Detroit Red Wings legend Gordie Howe died at the age of 88. Ferris' friend Cameron wore a Howe jersey throughout the film. The Red Wings noted the film's anniversary on Twitter as part of their continuing remembrances of Howe's death.

On this day in 1986, Ferris Bueller's Day Off opened in theaters.
