Eugenio Figueredo, a former vice president of FIFA, received millions of dollars in bribes as president of the South American soccer federation, Uruguayan prosecutors said.
Figueredo, 83, was extradited from Switzerland and was in jail in Montevideo awaiting trial.
Late Friday, Figueredo was admitted to a hospital with chest pain but was expected to return to his cell in a matter of hours, according to the prosecutor in his case, Juan Gómez.
