Sports Briefing | Pro Basketball: W.N.B.A. Says Pivotal Call Was Wrong

A foul that led to Minnesota Lynx forward Maya Moore’s winning free throw in the closing seconds of the W.N.B.A.’s Western Conference finals should not have been called, the league said.

With the score tied in Sunday’s game between Minnesota and the host Phoenix Mercury, Moore stole a pass by Noelle Quinn, who was then whistled for a reach-in foul. Moore made a free throw with 1.5 seconds left for a 72-71 victory that gave the Lynx a two-game sweep and a spot in the W.N.B.A. finals.
