Sports Briefing | Olympics: I.O.C. Asks WADA To Take Over Testing

Olympic leaders meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland, agreed to make drug testing independent of sports organizations and are asking the World Anti-Doping Agency to take over responsibility for testing on a global level.

The I.O.C. said in a statement that the group had “decided to make antidoping testing independent from sports organizations.” It said those at the meeting had asked that WADA “study taking responsibility for testing as the global center of competence in antidoping.”

The study will be carried out by a WADA working group that includes Olympic leaders and government representatives.
