Sports Briefing | Auto Racing: Earnhardt Opposes Confederate Battle Flag

Dale Earnhardt Jr., one of Nascar’s most popular drivers, called the Confederate battle flag “offensive to an entire race” and voiced his support for its removal from the South Carolina State House.

Nascar said this week that it backed Gov. Nikki Haley’s call to remove the flag, and said it disallowed the flag in any official Nascar capacity.

The flag issue was heightened last week after nine people were killed at a church in Charleston, S.C., and the man charged in the case appeared in photos posing with the flag.
