Chip Ganassi Racing joined the ranks of racing teams scrambling for sponsors this week, a move that could affect its NASCAR operation.
Friday's immediate impact, however, was on its IndyCar operation. Target, a sponsor for nearly three decades, announced it would leaving open-wheel racing after the 2016 season.
Ganassi's IndyCar teams have produced champions and race winners, including four at the Indianapolis 500.
Its Sprint Cup teams haven't been as good. Although competitive, owner Chip Ganassi's cars haven't won a Cup race since 2007. Before that, it was 2002. Ganassi's most consistent Cup winner was Sterling Marlin, with four wins in 2001 and '02.
