The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission sent out an official notice Thursday calling on "hoverboard" makers and sellers to voluntarily take the product off the market until they can be determined safe, per Mashable.
The notice, which can be read here, essentially says the hoverboards are not safe, stating, "consumers risk serious injury or death if their self-balancing scooters ignite and burn." In addition, the notice says if the new hoverboard safety standards aren't followed, they "may seek detention and/or seizure," adding, "if we encounter such products domestically, we may seek a recall of these products.
