Lindsey Vonn secured a record-breaking eighth FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup downhill title and moved back into pole position for a fifth overall crystal globe with a second-placed finish in La Thuile.
Italy's Nadia Fanchini nipped Vonn by 0.14 seconds on Saturday to claim her second World Cup victory, with another home favorite, Daniela Merighetti, completing the podium.

However, Vonn's runner-up finish ensured she stretched her lead in the downhill standings to 173 points, with one race in the discipline — and a maximum of 100 points — remaining in the 2015-16 season.
