The Bahamas’ Shaunae Miller won the Olympic women’s 400 meters on Monday, diving past Allyson Felix in a controversial finish to claim gold.
In a tight race, Miller stumbled while approaching the final few meters, eventually falling through the finish line. With her dive, Miller finished ahead of the American, who was racing the 400 meters in the Olympics for the first time.
Miller finished the race in 49.44 seconds, while Felix finished in 49.51. Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson took bronze in 49.85.
Felix’s silver is her seventh Olympic medal, and she passes Jackie Joyner-Kersee for the most all time for a female American runner.
