Seven Russian swimmers banned from Rio Olympics

Seven Russian swimmers, including two Olympic medalists and a reigning world champion, have been banned from competing in the Rio Olympic Games due to doping violations.

Swimming world governing body FINA banned 2008 Olympic silver medalist and 2012 bronze medalist Nikita Lobintsev, 2012 bronze medalist Vladimir Morozov and Daria Ustinova from the Olympics next month after they appeared in a report on state-sanctioned doping by Russia.

World 100-meter breaststroke champion Yulia Efimova, Mikhail Dovgalyuk, Natalia Lovtsova and marathon swimmer Anastasia Krapivina have been withdrawn by the Russian Olympic Committee as the quartet has previously been sanctioned.
