LONDON -- It took a little longer than expected, but Serena Williams
Williams captured her seventh Wimbledon title Saturday, beating Germany's Angelique Kerber 7-5, 6-x on Centre Court to match Steffi Graf's Open era record.
Margaret Court holds the all-time record with 24 Grand Slam titles.
Kerber beat Williams in the Australian Open final for her first Grand Slam title. Williams also reached the final at the French Open, but lost to Garbine Muguruza.
There was no denying her this time.
Williams became the fourth woman in the Open Era to win seven or more titles at a single Grand Slam event, joining Martina Navratilova (9 at Wimbledon), Graf (7 at Wimbledon) and Chris Evert (7 at French Open).
