Serena Williams believes her second-round victory over Christina McHale was influential in her battering of Annika Beck on Sunday.
Williams lost the first set to McHale and struggled to eliminate her fellow American. It was a different story on Sunday as she hammered Beck 6-3, 6-0 on Centre Court to earn a 300th career grand-slam victory.
It was a vintage showing for Williams, who next faces Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova. Also on Sunday, Kuznetsova defeated American Sloane Stephens 7-6, 2-6, 6-8. Coco Vandeweghe of the U.S. advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Roberta Vinci.
Williams and Vandeweghe play Monday, as do Venus Williams and Madison Keys, both of whom are seeded.
