Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, will not travel to Canada for the Women’s World Cup final, Reuters reported on Tuesday, citing his lawyer, who is based in the United States.
The lawyer, Richard Cullen, cited “personal reasons” for Blatter’s decision, but he made no mention of the corruption case that resulted in the arrest of 14 senior FIFA officials and sports marketing executives in May. That scandal led to Blatter’s announcement on June 2 that he would call a special election and step down as FIFA president.
“He’s not going to go to the finals in Canada,” Cullen said, according to the Reuters report.
