WASHINGTON (AP) — Nationals ace Max Scherzer has thrown a no-hitter against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Nationals Park.
Scherzer was in line to throw the 24th-ever perfect game, but with 26 outs down and two strikes, he hit Jose Tabata with a pitch.
Scherzer struck out 10 the 6-0 win. He also hit a single in the third.
The last perfect game in MLB history came from Felix Hernandez in 2012.
The Pirates twice hit balls to the warning track in Scherzer's first time through the order.
In his previous start, Scherzer was perfect at Milwaukee last Sunday until Carlos Gomez led off the seventh with a bloop single.
