It was hit from an almost impossible angle and with unstoppable power, a strike as audacious as it was precise – and it came from Sandro Tonali.
Picking up the ball wide on the right flank, Brentford’s defence and, more importantly goalkeeper Mark Flekken, were preparing for the cross. Of course they were, it was the logical thing to do, the sensible thing to do.
There was no way Tonali was going to try and shoot from that far out and from that tight an angle. The Italy international, though, knew exactly what he wanted to do.
