PISCATAWAY, N.J. — Rutgers dismissed five players from the football team on Saturday, two days after they were arrested and indefinitely suspended from the program following an investigation by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the New Brunswick Police Department.
Rutgers announced the dismissals minutes before the team’s season opener at High Point Solutions Stadium here against Norfolk State, a Football Championship Subdivision team.
On Friday, Robert Barchi, the university president, released a statement saying the players were being placed on interim suspension from Rutgers and would not be allowed to enter campus unless under supervision.
