Russia Suspended by Track and Field’s Governing Body

Russia was provisionally suspended from track and field on Friday by the sport’s world governing body in the wake of sweeping doping allegations against the country’s athletes, coaches, trainers, doctors and officials.

The ban, which will keep Russian athletes out of all sanctioned international track and field events worldwide and possibly disrupt preparations for next summer’s Rio Olympics, will remain in place while the case is considered more fully.

The council for the I.A.A.F., the governing body, chaired by the new federation president, Sebastian Coe, met via teleconference on Friday and voted on the suspension by a 22-1 margin.
