Atletico Madrid is ready to open contract talks with attacker Yannick Ferreira Carrasco, AS reports.
Barcelona held an interest in the Belgium international winger this summer and Atleti is concerned that the Catalans might soon be willing to bid the 40 million euro ($44.8M) that is currently the player’s release value.
As a result, they wish to increase his release clause and in return offer him a significantly higher wage.
When Carrasco arrived from Monaco in the summer of 2015, he signed a six-year deal that will expire in 2021 — the same contract he is currently on.
