Roundup: Joey Votto Hits Three Homers in Reds’ Rout of the Phillies

Joey Votto hit three homers in a game for the third time in his career — matching Johnny Bench as the only Reds players to do it — as Cincinnati walloped the Philadelphia Phillies, 11-2, on Tuesday night.

Votto hit two of the Reds’ four homers off Aaron Harang (4-7), who had given up a total of four all season. Votto connected on solo shots in the third and fifth innings before adding a two-run homer in the seventh off Dustin McGowan. Votto, who walked and then scored on Zack Cozart’s three-run homer in the first, grounded out in the eighth, finishing one homer shy of the major league single-game record.
