While watching the action at Wimbledon on television Wednesday, world No. 1 Rory McIlroy announced he won't be playing in next week's British Open on the Old Course in St. Andrews, Scotland.
McIlroy posted a photo on his Instagram account of his left foot and ankle that is in a walking boot after he sustained a rupture of an ankle ligament and the associated joint capsule while playing soccer with friends last week near Belfast, Northern Ireland.
In the background is a big screen TV tuned into Wimbledon and the match involving Andy Murray. Under the photo was text written by McIlroy saying he won't be able to defend his British Open title.
