CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The only thing sweeter than the chocolate cake the Wells Fargo Championship presented Rory McIlroy with for his 27th birthday Wednesday would be his third tournament trophy at Quail Hollow on Sunday.
The Irishman dominated last year, breaking his own course record with an 11-under 61 in the third round en route to setting the tournament’s 54- and 72-hole scoring records. However, McIlroy hasn't tasted victory on the PGA Tour since.
