Californian Alexander Rossi took the lead as drivers in front of him pitted with about four laps and won Sunday's 100th running of Indianapolis 500. Rossi, 24, was racing in his first Indy 500.
Rossi and his Andretti Autosport team gambled by staying on the track for the last 36 laps, stretching their available fuel to the max. His No. 98 Honda ran out of gas just after the checkered flag fell.
