Ronald Gasser, the man who shot and killed former NFL and USC running back Joe McKnight, has been charged with manslaughter, Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office jail records show.
The office announced a press conference will be held at 10 a.m. CST Tuesday to discuss the case further.
Gasser, 54, was previously taken into custody right after the shooting this past Thursday and was released with no charges after questioning. This led to outcry from the public, which claimed he was let go because he is white.
"Everybody wants to make this about race. This isn't about race," Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said in a press conference the day after the shooting.
