Ron Rivera: It was 'pain in the ass' that Panthers opened season in Denver

It's been more than a week since the Panthers' 21-20 loss to the Broncos in Denver, but Ron Rivera is still perturbed.

Not so much about the tough loss, but about the fact the defending NFC champions had to open their season on the road.

The Panthers coach said Friday he's been upset since the NFL released the 2016 schedule and he saw schedule makers had set up a Week 1 rematch of last season's Super Bowl 50 in December. The Broncos beat Carolina 24-10 in that game.

For the NFL, such matchups are good for creating buzz and boosting TV ratings.
