RIDGEWAY, Va. — Running in the top 15 all day at Martinsville Speedway in the STP 500, AJ Allmendinger quieted critics who said the No. 47 driver can only have success on a road course.
Allmendinger, who has never won on an oval in the Sprint Cup Series but has a win and six top-10 finishes in 14 career road-course races, was pumped with his second-place finish Sunday.

"I passed Jimmie Johnson like five times at Martinsville, that's pretty cool — had a shot at [race-winner] Kyle Busch," Allmendinger said after the race.
