American swimmer Lilly King backed up her ridicule of Russian breaststroker Yulia Efimova by beating the controversial swimmer in the 100-meter breaststroke Monday in Rio.
King became a fan favorite Sunday after calling out the Russian for her previous positive drug tests as she took the top seed by 0.02 seconds. In Monday night's final, King used a powerful turnover rate to lead at the halfway mark and held on over the final 10 meters to win with a new Olympic record time of 1 minute, 4.93 seconds.
Efimova, who was showered with boos as she was introduced, finished second with a time of 1:05.
