The United States women haven't won a 400-meter freestyle relay at the Olympics since 2000 in Sydney and will be hard pressed to end that skid in Rio, but coach David Marsh is relishing the role of an underdog as he looks forward to one of his favorite events.
"The 400 free relay the first night, there is something about the first night of the Olympics," Marsh told Omnisport. "To some degree we won’t be the favorites and won’t have the pressure on us. The Australians will be the favorite, the Dutch will likely compete for the gold.
