U.S. bantamweight boxer Shakur Stevenson fought a great fight against Cuba's Robeisy Ramirez on Saturday but was not able to win a gold medal.
Afterward, the 19-year-old boxer from New Jersey sobbed at the missed opportunity.
Boxing analysts billed the bout an instant classic, the first meeting between boxers who likely will meet as professionals.
Ramirez, the gold medalist in the flyweight division in London in 2012, came out strong in the first round, winning unanimously.
Stevenson, 23-0 in international competition entering the fight, rebounded to win the second round by unanimous decision.
That left the gold medal to be decided in the outcome of the third and final round.
