Rio Olympics 2016: Phillip Dutton becomes oldest U.S. medalist since 1908

The oldest member of the United States Olympic team in Rio won bronze Tuesday, his first individual medal in six trips to the Olympics.

Phillip Dutton medaled in equestrian eventing, taking third behind Michael Jung of Germany and Astier Nicolas of France while riding Mighty Nice.

The 52-year-old finished 23rd in the same event four years ago in London, with a previous career best of 13th at the 2004 Athens Games. He won gold in team eventing in 1996 and 2000 while competing for his native Australia before becoming a U.S. citizen in 2006.

Dutton took a penalty Tuesday but managed to hang on for third place, his best finish in the event at a major international competition.
