Michael Phelps used his built-up frustration over Chad le Clos' ready-room antics and past defeat and turned it into a gold medal in the 200-meter butterfly final Tuesday in Rio.
Phelps lost by 0.05 seconds to le Clos in the event at the 2012 London Games and swam next to the South African, who followed Monday's pre-swim shadow boxing with a quick staredown behind the blocks.
Phelps was first at the halfway mark and used his low-in-the-water stroke to hang on for the win with a time of 1 minute, 53.36 seconds. He become the first swimmer to win four medals in the same individual event in Olympic history.
