Katie Ledecky's Rio domination continued when she broke the Olympic record in the 800-meter freestyle preliminaries Thursday morning.
The 19-year-old American's time of 8:12.86 was 1.24 seconds faster than the record set eight years ago in Beijing by Great Britain's Rebecca Adlington.
She finished more than six seconds ahead of Boglarka Kapas of Hungary. However, she was off her own world record time of 8:06.68.
Ledecky now owns the 12 fastest times in the event. She won gold in the event in 2012, her only race in the London Olympics.
