Rio 2016 organizers have confirmed that a controlled explosion was carried out at the basketball venue before Spain and Nigeria tipped off Thursday.
A statement from a spokesman said a backpack was found in a trash container in a bathroom and blown up at the direction of Federal Police and the Army.

"Inside the bag were found a tablet, a pair of socks and a jacket," the statement read.
The game began with no fans in the arena, but they were allowed in when the scene was deemed safe.
